The main problem of the small and medium sized packages as it either covers low-medium capacities, rural/mobile areas, distributed regions or underdeveloped regions, is the access to trained operators or equipment. Therefore by closely monitoring and consulting the operating WWTPs, MATRIX designers focused on “Simple and Reliable Operation” design. Therefore the main focus was on easy operation and maintenance, open loop one-way treatment process, rust-free and reliable tank and equipment material, small sludge production, ability to withstand hydraulic and organic shocks as well as meeting high treatment requirements and cost competitiveness.

High Surface Area for Biofilm Growth
- The intricate honeycomb-like structure allows microorganisms to colonize and form biofilms.
- This enhances biological degradation of organic matter and nitrogen compounds.
Self-Cleaning and Continuous Operation
- The media are suspended and constantly moving in aerated tanks, which helps prevent clogging.
- Biofilm sloughing occurs naturally, reducing the need for manual cleaning.
Efficient Nitrification and Denitrification
- The biofilm supports aerobic and anoxic zones, promoting nitrification (ammonia removal) and denitrification (nitrate reduction to nitrogen gas).
Resistant to Shock Loads
- Unlike activated sludge systems, MBBR can handle fluctuations in pollutant loads more effectively.
- The biofilm remains stable even during high organic load variations.
Long-life, Durable Tanks, Easy Installation, No Maintenance
As one of the most neutral materials, and excellent mechanical properties, the accepted life-span of HDPE in contact with wastewater is considered to be at least 50 years. MWWs use highly durable HDPE tanks and with easy underground installation, the tank could be guaranteed to the maximum.
No need to worry about corrosion, leak, break (could easily handle soil settlements) and coating refurbish. A simple wash and sludge collect at the bottom of the tank, will make it just like new.
